The Nauhaus Institute (NHI) is a research and development organization
with member partners who take on custom work and development projects
based on NHI results. We are now a 501(c)3 non-profit project and our
research is made possible by support from our partner organizations,
volunteers, and benevolent donors.
Currently, we are building a carbon neutral urban homestead in Asheville, North Carolina. The prototype has been designed to be one of the most energy efficient, low-embodied energy projects in the world and is conceived as a model for transforming our current non-sustainable residential building paradigm. Our budget, on the other hand, is that of a typical residential home. In order to complete the project as designed and then monitor and report on its performance, we need your help in one of the following ways:
- Donate money. This is self-explanatory. To donate directly to us, click the "Donate" button below. If you’d like to make a tax-deductible donation, click the second "Donate" button below. All tax-deductible donations have 8% deducted from the total that goes to our fiscal sponsors, Kleiwerks International. If you have any questions, email donate@thenauhaus.com or call Clarke at 828-230-9857.
- Donate products. Our Nauhaus prototype project is underway. To learn more about becoming a sponsor through the donation of or discounts for products required for the project or our general research, visit our Sponsors page.
- Donate time. Until we secure broader funding, the NHI is a volunteer organization. If you’d like to volunteer, contact Billy at 828-221-1921 or billy@thenauhaus.com. We can use help in the following areas:
- Legal. We need a clearer legal structure. Can you help?
- Grant Writing. We are on our way to getting our 501(c)(3) status for the Nauhaus Institute and we need to start procuring funds for our research and outreach activities.
- Labor. Our prototype project is an opportunity to learn interesting green and natural building techniques by doing. If you have a flexible schedule, aren’t afraid to get dirty, and are focused and organized, then give us a call.
- Full Internships. We have been blessed with a steady stream of interns that have helped us with a variety of research and design tasks. We could use a limited number of motivated and well organized interns with a knack for research, drafting, outreach, graphic design, video editing/production, and general building science. If you have better than average intelligence and want to learn about cutting edge eco-design, then come give us a hand.
